Misty Mountain Camp Resort

56 Misty Mountain Rd. Greenwood, VA 22943

Misty Mountain is about a mile off of I-64 between Charlottesville and Waynesboro, VA.  We have always loved this area for its wineries, breweries, hiking, tubing and the nearest ski area to Virginia Beach, Wintergreen Resort.  This is our second time staying at Misty Mountain Resort, and have enjoyed our time there.

The staff was amazing – especially T-Bone.  Camping alone with my mom and the kids this trip, he was always there when needed.  He assisted when we had to re-level after 3 days due to non-stop rain and ironically, swung by when we were hitching to leave, being my second set of eyes, that all was done correctly.  I learned a great lesson – use wood blocks as stabilizers not the orange lynx levelers.

Misty Mountain has a lower and an upper section.  The upper level consists of shaded sites, back in, pull throughs, and cabins.  It is very quiet in the upper section.  The lower section has pull throughs and back ins.  To get to the upper level, you have to climb a very big hill – big rigs can do it, but you aren’t accessing the lower level and the amenities by foot or bike – you need to drive or use a golf cart to get down.  Therefore, with kids, I recommend staying on the lower level, near all of the amenities – pool, bounce pad, playgrounds, volleyball court.  Even in all the rain we experienced, the kids spent a lot of time at the bounce pad since it is covered by a tent – a great way to get energy out.  They have a huge firepit and outdoor stage for live music in the lower section.  We were lucky enough to experience this on our last night.

Misty mountain is 5 – 30 minutes from a plethora of excellent breweries and wineries and 30 from Charlottesville, VA.  We highly recommend this campsite and the availability of activities in the area.
